Adult Sunday School: Let’s Do Some Bible Study!!!
You may be wondering: What’s all this I’m hearing about our congregation being “a Matthew 25 church”? Here is an opportunity to find out!
Tune in to Zoom during the adult Sunday school hour for five Sundays, (which started on September 13), for a deep dive into the book of Matthew—and maybe a few other parts of the Bible as well—to explore Jesus’ vision for the church. Learn how that vision can apply to CHPC, and to you as a follower of Christ. Help us discern together how we can answer God’s call to practice love, mercy, and justice in a world scarred by poverty and systemic racism.
Mark and Barbara Barnes will be our Bible study leaders on Sept. 20 and 27 and Oct. 4.
Everyone is welcome—whether you’ve read the Bible 20 times or never made it past Genesis; whether you have a seminary degree or just have lots of questions (and there are no dumb questions!). Please join us.

Congregational Connections
In last month’s Westminster Ways, Nurture Council introduced possible ideas for helping CHPC individuals and families support each other during the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to those of you who contacted us with ideas for being involved. We are compiling those responses and talking with folks about how to begin addressing them in October. If you missed the original newsletter article but may still be interested, please call or text Soni Castleberry at 502-417-6481 or email her at soni.castleberry@gmail.com to share your needs for managing life better during this difficult time for all of us.
Give to the Peace & Global Witness Offering
This fall we are challenged to cast off anxiety and fear, discord and division, and embrace God’s mission of reconciliation! By giving to the Peace & Global Witness Offering, you help promote the peace of Christ by addressing systems of conflict and injustice across the world. The Peace & Global Witness Offering, one of four special offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), supports our global partners and empowers individuals and congregations to become peacemakers. It funds ministries that fight hunger and poverty and work for racial justice through education, empowerment of women, prison ministries and other efforts. Participating congregations designate 25 percent of the offering to support ministries of their choosing. Session voted to assign our 25 percent to “Feed the West“. The offering is collected on or before World Communion Sunday, October 4. You may give online or mail a check to the church. Please give generously!

What Can We Do?
Very often during times of crisis we wonder what, if anything, we can do. The Dean of Louisville Seminary, Debra J. Mumford has started a Padlet (electronic bulletin board with active links) that showcases actions we are each able to take to help realize social justice in the worldhttps://padlet.com/dmumford2/6mlyz480kr9e1wrk.
