Small Groups This Fall!
Building and deepening friendships among CHPC-ers is the purpose of the small groups meeting via Zoom. And there’s another opportunity coming for you to participate in a small Zoom group. These are a continuation of the groups that have been called Spiritual Companioning Groups most recently. We’re church folk, so there will be prayers and remindersof what’s happening with the congregation at large, and the most important reason for thegroups is, yes, building and deepening friendships among CHPC-ers.
These times of necessary caution about being with others and staying at home are challenging. We miss being together and sharing meals and hugs and singing as a congregation. But we are still connected with each other through our church and our faith. Most of us know some Crescent Hill members very well, and some others only slightly. So here’s a way toconnect with others, to make some new friends, to learn more about acquaintances, and to share who you are in a context of shared faith, love, acceptance and kindness.
Please note that what is shared in the small groups is kept confidential by everyone and that it is important for you to be able to commit to make being present a priority. If you would like to be part of the next “round” of Small Zoom Groups, please email Faith at office@crescenthill.church by September 15. You will be contacted by a facilitator whowill find a mutually convenient day and time for your eight group meetings.Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like “free” “personalized” “complimentary” or “customized.” A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like “for a limited time only” or “only 7 remaining!”

Seminary Intern Begins September 13th
On Sunday, September 13th, we welcome Rebecca Mattern, who will work with us for the 2020-21 academic year. Rebecca is a student at Louisville Seminary and says that she is excited to work with CHPC for her Field Education placement. We are excited to welcome her as part of our community! She will have roles with worship and routinely work as part of our staff. She will also be part of pastoral care and Sunday school in various ways. Please help welcome her when she is introduced to the congregation on the 13th!
Desperately Seeking Sunday School Teachers!
Hi folks, Todd your friendly neighborhood Adult Sunday School Coordinator here. This coming Sunday will be our LAST Adult Sunday School for a while unless YOU step up. You do not need to be an expert. You simply need to be willing to lead a class on a topic you feel is appropriate and important on your Faith Journey. Is there a particular book of the Bible that you find a source of strength or comfort in these trying times? Do you have experience in fighting for justice that you can share? Do you serve on a Council that needs a little more exposure? The church has a Zoom! account dedicated to Adult Sunday School and scheduled for our use every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:45 so you do not need to have your own account.
Contact me at btoddr@gmail.com or call me at 502-439-6008 to volunteer. I would love to schedule you in. You responded to our Deacon call to fill the freezer, don’t make me get out the puns.
Peace and Grace,Todd

CHPC Sunday School for September
Join Adult Sunday School this Sunday, and be reminded of the beauty of creation! Bruce Whearty will share some of his recent nature photos. We’ll talk a little about the photos and how they relate to meditation, but mostly we’ll just admire the beauty of Iroquois Park in South Louisville. God has made the world. Come and see!

Farewell from Paula Tibbs
Dear folks at CHPC:
I want to tell you what a joy it has been to be part of the Crescent Hill family for the past 10 years. Thank you for your support, your prayers and your help with the French-language Outreach Ministry, that I had the joy to be part of for eight years. And I thank you for your welcome and your caring to me.
As you may know, I work at the Center. In this pandemic, PCUSA has come to value teleworking and even encourage it. So I am taking this opportunity to move back to Wisconsin (Eau Claire). My family has been asking me to move “home” for a while; and after my 88-year-old mother got coronavirus (and recovered, thanks be to God), well, my priorities shifted a bit. The move will also let me be closer to my son. I will continue to work for Africa, just from a different place.
In this time, I cannot say goodbye in person, but I want at least to express again my thanks. I will miss you.
Paula Tibbs
What Can We Do?
Very often during times of crisis we wonder what, if anything, we can do. The Dean of Louisville Seminary, Debra J. Mumford has started a Padlet (electronic bulletin board with active links) that showcases actions we are each able to take to help realize social justice in the worldhttps://padlet.com/dmumford2/6mlyz480kr9e1wrk.
