What Can We Do?
Very often during times of crisis we wonder what, if anything, we can do. The Dean of Louisville Seminary, Debra J. Mumford has started a Padlet (electronic bulletin board with active links) that showcases actions we are each able to take to help realize social justice in the world
Nehemiah Project
The full name of the project is “The Nehemiah Project: Strengthening Historica African American Congregations”. It draws heavily on the principles of renewal found in the book of Nehemiah, and the spirit of the work can well be understood in the message of James 3:18: A fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who are making peace. Anti-racism work is urgent, and it requires endurance. This means that we urgently plant the seeds and nurture the garden of education, relationship-building, and learning through reciprocity and respect. Session has approved our participation and Roger recently presented information at a “Coffee Hour” before worship. The project is a unique opportunity for our congregation to learn with and from leaders in the African American community.
CHPC Wednesday Lunch at 12 Noon
As an opportunity to stay connected in prayer, fellowship, and food, you are invited to join for a Zoom lunch on Wednesday, June 24th at 12noon. Roger will open with prayer and a blessing. After that, the conversation is up to you. As an attendee, make sure you’re muted while you chew. 🙂 Pro tip: Keep your mic muted and hold the spacebar to unmute your mic for any quick comments. Once you let go of the spacebar, you’ll go back to being muted. The focus is fellowship and not decision-making. Connect with others and enjoy a meal.

A Note from Debbie Dierks
Hello church family!
During this self-isolating pandemic, I have been self-isolating in the choir room, cleaning out 35(!) years of pack-ratting music, bulletins, magazines and so much stuff – it’s actually embarrassing! BUT, one positive and exciting result of all this cleaning presents an opportunity for all of you…Do you remember the hymnal supplement “Sing the Faith”, and our previous blue hymnal “The Presbyterian Hymnal” ? Worship Council has approved the distribution of these rich musical resources to each family at CHPC.Please contact me to set up a time for you to come to church to get a copy of each hymnal. I will have them set up on the kitchen cart (I call it “The Magnificart”) on the plaza. In case of inclement weather, I will be just inside the narthex, wearing a mask, of course, and maintaining social distancing.
If you are unable to get to church, please call me at 502-396-6803, send me a text, or email me at frododob@yahoo.com. I will set up a delivery ministry to make sure you get your hymnals.I hope you will add these musical treasures to your library.
Peace.I miss you.
Debbie Dierks
Matthew 25 Congregation
Session just voted for CHPC to be a Matthew 25 congregation. Matthew 25:31–46 calls all of us to actively engage in the world around us, so our faith comes alive and we wake up to new possibilities. Convicted by this passage, both the 222nd and 223rd General Assemblies (2016 and 2018) exhorted the PC(USA) to act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned or poor.https://www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/matthew-25/
Cedar Ridge Summer Camp
Cedar Ridge is having an overnight camp called Quarantine Camp for 3 weeks straight beginning July 6th. They are having the campers at camp for the 3-weeks so that they can be tested and then they will be able to be free to be with each other for the 3-weeks without masks. This camp will be closed, and the kids will not be able to come and go because of the pandemic.
For more information visit the Cedar Ridge website here.
Cedar Ridge Scholarship
If you are interested in attending the three-week-long Quarantine Camp, we can help! Thanks to the generosity of previous generations at Crescent Hill, we have some funds available to help with the cost of camps at Cedar Ridge. Please click here for an application for a scholarship to help pay for camp. Please fill it out, and email it promptly back to Faith at the church office. The deadline is noon on Friday, June 26.
More Spiritual Companioning Groups Coming in July
New Spiritual Companioning Groups are forming now and will begin in early July.If you are interested in becoming part of a Spiritual Companioning Group, please email Faith at office@crescenthill.church to let her know and to give her your preference of day and time to meet.
Spiritual Companioning Groups FAQ
1. Who: anyone who wants to be part of a group. (YOU?)
2. What: connecting with other folks from CHPC to be present to each other, listen thoughtfully to each other, and keep confidence with each other as we reflect on life and the Holy in our lives. Each group meeting will include sharing with each other, silence and prayer, as well as reminders of the ongoing life of CHPC.
3. Where: by Zoom connection or phone
4. When: beginning in early July on a day and time convenient for all participants in each group for an hour (or a little more) once a week for six weeks.
5. Why: responding to the invitation to deepen relationships with each other and with God
6. How: email Faith in the church office to tell her you would like to participate and give her your preferred meeting times. You’ll be contacted by a group facilitator (all are part of the CHPC community) to set the first meeting time.
Members of the groups have expressed appreciation for friendships made and deepened in the groups, for careful listening within the groups, and for time to reflect on the realities ofthe pandemic, the recession, and the movement toward greater racial justice in the light of our faith.
Thank You From the Welch Family
