Earth Care Sunday School for March
CHPC earth care team members Andrew Kang Bartlett and Stephen Bartlett will lead Sunday School for youth and adults on zoom in March on trees, land and agriculture. Andrew is national staff for the Presbyterian Hunger Program, active in local Louisville tree-planting and harvesting, cultivates crops in his St. Matthews yard, and does food justice advocacy throughout Louisville. Stephen is head of the CHPC community garden and the summer garden camps hosted there, owns a farm in the Dominican Republic, is former staff for Agricultural Missions, and active throughout the Louisville community with gardens, trees, land and agricultural issues.

March’s focus will pick-up what COVID interrupted last March: a discussion of the importance, meaning, and place of trees in our community. Stephen will share about the tree planting at his farm in the DR and Andrew about his own tree-planting projects at home and in Louisville, and we’ll also learn about city-wide efforts at increasing the tree canopy, increasing fruit tree accessibility, and using land for marginalized communities to grow food. We’ll discuss what we can all do—whether at church, in our own homes, in the city—to care for trees and all creation. Towards the end of the month, we will also explore public policy opportunities such as the THRIVE agenda and Green New Deal, to support broad environmental efforts. Earth Care Sunday School – Food, Trees, Survive, ThriveTime: Mar 7, 2021 09:00 AM Eastern Time *Class begins at 9:45, but feel free to jump on anytime and chat with other early birds. Just save some worms for the rest of us…

Calling First-Timers, Long-Timers, and Anyone In Between: This May be the Time for You
The Guatemalan Connection, the CHPC group that co-ordinates activities around our partnership with the Q’eqchi Estoreno Izabal Presbytery, is reaching out to CHPCers of any age who would be interested in learning more about this incredible mission that has been at the forefront of CHPC’s international efforts for over 15 years. You may be looking for new ways to engage in ministry in our church, or want to stay connected, or re-connect with the Guatemalan Connection. Whatever your situation we hope that you will join with us.

We believe this ministry is a faith-enhancing way for you to personally feel the spirit of Christ at work in our world. In the midst of so many challenges in our personal lives and our church we can learn so much from our sisters and brothers in Guatemala about individual, church, national, and international struggles and how God’s love for all of us can give us strength and direction.

Please join us in a Zoom meeting on Saturday, March 13 at 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. We will help you to learn more about this ministry and you can help us to decide on future directions for activities and ways to raise awareness and support within our full congregation about the importance of this partnership. Reach out now to Perry Chang at perrydchang@gmail.com or 502-457-7833, or Soni Castleberry at soni.castleberry@gmail.com or 502-417-6481, if you have questions, otherwise just join us through this Zoom link:
We really hope to have you join us.
40 days of Nurture
Hello Church Family. As we approach Lent, the members of Nurture Committee have committed to 40 Days of Nurture. These 40 days (not counting Sundays) is a liturgical season which prepares us for the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Traditionally, Christians have been asked to give something up but we want to participate in 40 days of Nurture. 40 days of sending letters, 40 days of walking, 40 days of meditation. 40 days of reading the Equal Justice Initiative Calendar. You can decide how you want to participate. Please join us in 40 days of Nurture.
