Souper Bowl Sunday is Feb. 7
UCHM is busier than ever serving food to the increasing number of neighbors who are struggling to make ends meet during these pandemic times. This coming Sunday is the traditional Souper Bowl Sunday. CHPC’s youth typically do a fun skit during worship and then collect cans of soup from worshippers before and after the service. This year we have to do it differently, but we must do it. The need is too great to even think of sitting out a year.
Yes, soup is needed, but so are other kinds of foods and household goods. You can drop off donations at UCHM, 150 South State St., rear door, Monday through Friday from 9 to 4. They have an intercom at that door to let them know you have arrived.
In addition to soup, the highest needed items are: peanut butter, tuna, chicken, pasta, spaghetti sauce, beans, rice, mac and cheese, rice, cereal/oatmeal, cooking oil, and flour. Personal care items also are needed, especially soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and laundry detergent.
Monetary donations are welcomed on line at UCHM https://www.uchmlouky.org/get-involved/give/.

Youth and Adult Sunday School for February: Exploring the Juvenile Justice System
Youth and adults are meeting together on Zoom for Sunday school in February. You are welcome to visit with each other at 9:30 or sign on at 9:45 a.m. when class begins.
We are all aware of the heart-breaking, ever-rising violence among young people in our community. Additionally, we all agree that “something needs to change”. In February we delve into what that “something” should be, specifically within our juvenile justice system

Congregation member and Juvenile Public Defender Eric Proctor will educate on the current juvenile justice system and facilitate discussion addressing the following:
When, if ever, should children be incarcerated? And for how long?
At what age should a child become an adult in the justice system? Should children ever be prosecuted as adults?
Can the school to prison pipeline be disrupted? How?
What roles do the following play: access to guns, race, poverty?
What can the community do, outside of prosecution, to rehabilitate delinquent children?
Finally, how does our faith as Christians, as CHPCers, and as a Matthew 25 congregation shape this conversation?

Congregational Input for the Pastor
In addition to the more focused review process, we want to invite you as a congregation to share your thoughts, feelings, and ideas about Roger’s work with us in a deeper way. While this is not specifically a part of the personnel review process, we would love your input, and so want to hear from you. We will share this information with Roger and the Session to strengthen our understanding of each other and grow closer in community.
The survey will remain open through Sunday, February 7th. In the spirit of transparency, love, and direct communication, anonymous responses will not be shared. Please include your name at the end of the survey where requested. All responses will be kept confidential by the committee and Session.
