Youth and Adult Sunday School for January
Beginning this Sunday morning, January 3rd, and continuing for the remaining four weeks of January please join in a zoom discussion of the book, Acts of Faith, by Eboo Patel. It is a remarkable account of growing up Muslim in America and becoming a prominent interfaith leader. His story is a hopeful and moving testament to the power and passion of young people — and the world-changing potential of an interfaith youth movement. Our CHPC Personnel Committee read it on Roger’s recommendation.
We believe that it can serve as a useful guide to enhance CHPC’s work as a Matthew 25 Congregation and create a structure where children and youth are involved in prophetic ministry. Copies of the book are available on-line and Carmichael’s will have some for purchase and held under Soni Castleberry’s name in about a week. Soni will be co-coordinating the class with Seth Craigo-Snell. The book will not be needed for the first class nor must you read the book to participate. Just come willing to learn and to share your experience being a youth, or raising children within a faith community.

Outreach: The Hope Buss
The outreach Council would love to share some very good news with our beloved community. The council has entered into a partnership with The Hope Buss . The director of this ministry is Stachelle Bussey, a graduate of LPTS with a MDiv. Stachelle lives and works in the West End using a school bus for her ministry. She distributes hot food, groceries, rides to stores and voting, and therapy from the bus. She was working with students at Shawnee before the Pandemic. She needs help in grant writing and she needs a van. If you can offer aid on either of these issues please call Lucy Steilberg at 502 893 5231 .
Christmas Joy OfferingYour gift to the Christmas Joy Offering works in two ways to strengthen the church by supporting past, present, and future church leaders:
50% of the offering provides critical financial assistance to current and retired church workers who have urgent financial, medical, or housing needs.
50% of the offering provides scholarships for students attending Presbyterian-related schools and colleges dedicated to educating future leaders for communities of color.
Our own Mary Love shared with us last year about how she received help from the Christmas Joy Offering when she needed financial assistance. As a Matthew 25 congregation, CHPC is also very committed to nurturing young leaders, particularly in communities of color.
The Christmas Joy Offering is one of the special offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church will be collecting the Christmas Joy Offering throughout December. You may contribute online at the church website or mail a check to the church. Please give generously!
