Adult Sunday School: Advent Candling
Join us for exploration and sharing as we move through Advent, candle by candle, week by week, drawing closer to the celebration of the birth of our Savior. Each week we will gather the beloved community to light a candle and read the scripture to be used in Worship. We will then reflect how the text relates to hope, peace, joy, and love followed by sharing of our lives and how we have experienced each of these.
Sessions will be led by Todd Rogers.

Outreach: The Hope Buss
The outreach Council would love to share some very good news with our beloved community. The council has entered into a partnership with The Hope Buss . The director of this ministry is Stachelle Bussey, a graduate of LPTS with a MDiv. Stachelle lives and works in the West End using a school bus for her ministry. She distributes hot food, groceries, rides to stores and voting, and therapy from the bus. She was working with students at Shawnee before the Pandemic. She needs help in grant writing and she needs a van. If you can offer aid on either of these issues please call Lucy Steilberg at 502 893 5231 .
Here comes another opportunity to let our children and youth know we love them and miss them. We are going to do small cookie bags. We will need 6 or more bakers and we would like to appeal to those of you that are staying home due to COVID risks. So this is a multigenerational activity. Depending on the cookies you choose to make, each child would only need 2-4 cookies. The bakers will receive cellophane bags, ties, and labels for their cookies. Cookie bags will be picked up from the bakers porch, contact free. The bags will then be delivered to the children, also contact free. Each bag will be labeled with an ingredient list and the name of your baker.
If you would like to bake, approximately 2 dozen cookies, OR you are able to deliver please text, call or email Claudia. (502)939-4129 email@example.com. If you have questions please reach out to Claudia or Deborah Fortel by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone at (502)721-8500.
Once we have the bakers and drivers determined we will set a date for the delivery so bakers can plan their baking time. Bakers we will need you to let us know the ingredients in the cookie you choose to bake so we can prepare the labels.
PARENTS: PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD HAS ANY ALLERGIES OR PARTICULAR PREFERENCES. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
Advent Season Worship Opportunities
Hello, and Blessed Advent greetings from your Worship Council. We have put together an Advent/Christmas calendar for you to peruse, enjoy and participate with us as we prepare for the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – Emmanuel…God-with-us.
We encourage you to create a worship space for Advent in your home with an Advent wreath, or just a simple candle you can light, maybe a purple cloth or another way to create a sacred space. You may also include your communion elements in this space.

Christmas Joy Offering
Your gift to the Christmas Joy Offering works in two ways to strengthen the church by supporting past, present, and future church leaders:
50% of the offering provides critical financial assistance to current and retired church workers who have urgent financial, medical, or housing needs.50% of the offering provides scholarships for students attending Presbyterian-related schools and colleges dedicated to educating future leaders for communities of color.
Our own Mary Love shared with us last year about how she received help from the Christmas Joy Offering when she needed financial assistance. As a Matthew 25 congregation, CHPC is also very committed to nurturing young leaders, particularly in communities of color.
The Christmas Joy Offering is one of the special offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church will be collecting the Christmas Joy Offering throughout December. You may contribute online at the church website or mail a check to the church. Please give generously!
Watch a video about one of the schools helped by the Christmas Joy Offering:
This is the time of year, if life was “normal,” when our youth group would have a fun afternoon buying gifts for less fortunate children, with our donations to United Crescent Hill Ministries’ annual Christmas Connection program. CHPC’s generous support has brightened the Christmas season for dozens of families in our area. Like so many things, Christmas Connection is different this year. Instead of shopping with specific gift lists, we will be making direct donations which UCHM will use to purchase Target, Walmart, Amazon and Kroger gift cards for Christmas Connection recipients. The goal is to provide a $100 gift card for each child plus a $25 Kroger gift card. In past years our youth saw that the gift lists they shopped with included many practical necessities such as socks, pajamas, jeans or a warm jacket. We won’t have those wish lists this year, but we know those basic needs are greater than ever, as the Covid pandemic complicates the lives of families already struggling financially. Typically about 100 families register for Christmas Connection gifts. This year already more than 130 families have signed up; many more are expected to register in the next couple weeks.
If you would like to help, there are several ways to do so:
Donate through UCHM’s website: uchmlouky.org (Click on Christmas Connection Sponsorship)
Mail or deliver a check made out to United Crescent Hill Ministries, designated Christmas Connection
Make a cash donation at UCHM’s community center
UCHM is located at 150 S. State St. 40206 (one block south of Frankfort Ave.)
