Adult Sunday School: Advent Candling

Join us for exploration and sharing as we move through Advent, candle by candle, week by week, drawing closer to the celebration of the birth of our Savior. Each week we will gather the beloved community to light a candle and read the scripture to be used in Worship. We will then reflect how the text relates to hope, peace, joy, and love followed by sharing of our lives and how we have experienced each of these.
Sessions will be led by Todd Rogers.

Virtual Christmas Pageant this Saturday
Dear, dear members of CHPC,
I miss you all so much, especially at this time of year. I have always looked forward to our annual Christmas pot-luck and program that we put on in Henry Young Hall. It brightens our spirits and connects us in ways that we remember and cherish.

Unfortunately, our pot-luck is out of luck this year; HOWEVER, fear not! We are having a virtual Christmas pageant on Saturday morning, December 12 at 11 am. There will be crafts, singing, and a fresh reading of the Christmas story by adults and children in our congregation. If you would like some of the craft projects, please let the office know (office@crescenthill.church) and I will arrange to drop off your craft kits; otherwise, you can use something you have around the house to be creative.

May the hope, peace, joy and love of this Advent season fill your hearts.

Taize Healing and Peace: Blue Christmas

We hope you will join us Wednesday, December 16th at 7 pm for a “virtual” Blue Christmas Taize Healing & Peace Service. For many this can be a very lonely and difficult season—and the opportunity to come together and share our grief, worries, and hope is comforting. At every healing and peace service we hold, there is a time to pray, sing, and be in silence as we bring our concerns to God. At this service, we include a ritual to help “empty our tears” and to light a candle to help us find our light.  Please join us!

Advent Season Worship Opportunities

Hello, and Blessed Advent greetings from your Worship Council. We have put together an Advent/Christmas calendar for you to peruse, enjoy and participate with us as we prepare for the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – Emmanuel…God-with-us.
We encourage you to create a worship space for Advent in your home with an Advent wreath, or just a simple candle you can light, maybe a purple cloth or another way to create a sacred space. You may also include your communion elements in this space.
Send in a Christmas Greeting video from you or your family! Each Sunday we will share greetings from different families after the benediction. There are two ways you can participate:

Make your own 25-second recording (please use landscape mode) and submit it to office@crescenthill.church before Noon on Wednesday.Join Rebecca on Zoom to be recorded during her office hours (4pm-6pm December 2, 9,16).

If you or your family have a crèche, we invite you to take a picture when you have it set up and send the photo in an email to office@crescenthill.church. Be sure to take the picture in a landscape or sideways format.
**We will be celebrating Communion every Sunday during Advent.

Christmas Joy Offering
Your gift to the Christmas Joy Offering works in two ways to strengthen the church by supporting past, present, and future church leaders:

50% of the offering provides critical financial assistance to current and retired church workers who have urgent financial, medical, or housing needs.

50% of the offering provides scholarships for students attending Presbyterian-related schools and colleges dedicated to educating future leaders for communities of color.
Our own Mary Love shared with us last year about how she received help from the Christmas Joy Offering when she needed financial assistance. As a Matthew 25 congregation, CHPC is also very committed to nurturing young leaders, particularly in communities of color.
The Christmas Joy Offering is one of the special offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church will be collecting the Christmas Joy Offering throughout December. You may contribute online at the church website or mail a check to the church. Please give generously!

Christmas Connection
This is the time of year, if life was “normal,” when our youth group would have a fun afternoon buying gifts for less fortunate children, with our donations to United Crescent Hill Ministries’ annual Christmas Connection program. CHPC’s generous support has brightened the Christmas season for dozens of families in our area. Like so many things, Christmas Connection is different this year. Instead of shopping with specific gift lists, we will be making direct donations which UCHM will use to purchase Target, Walmart, Amazon and Kroger gift cards for Christmas Connection recipients. The goal is to provide a $100 gift card for each child plus a $25 Kroger gift card. In past years our youth saw that the gift lists they shopped with included many practical necessities such as socks, pajamas, jeans or a warm jacket. We won’t have those wish lists this year, but we know those basic needs are greater than ever, as the Covid pandemic complicates the lives of families already struggling financially. Typically about 100 families register for Christmas Connection gifts. This year already more than 130 families have signed up; many more are expected to register in the next couple weeks.
If you would like to help, there are several ways to do so:
1. Donate through UCHM’s website: uchmlouky.org (Click on Christmas Connection Sponsorship)
2. Mail or deliver a check made out to United Crescent Hill Ministries, designated Christmas Connection
3. Make a cash donation at UCHM’s community center
UCHM is located at 150 S. State St. 40206 (one block south of Frankfort Ave.)
