Adult Education for November 22
Looking Together at White Too Long by Robert P. Jones What Amy Pauw writes about church, it’s “peccability, its proneness to sin” (Church in Ordinary Time, p.6), is on full display in White Too Long. Robert Jones takes a long, and frequently disturbing look at the history of white supremacy and racism in white Christian churches in the United States. He also tells the stories of hopeful change among white U.S. Christians and congregations.Whether or not you have had time to read White Too Long, the Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity by Robert P. Jones, you are invited to a conversation about the book with Deborah Fortel and other CHPCers. Copies of the book are available at Carmichael’s Bookstore. Tell them you are from Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church to receive a discount.

Thanksgiving Week Hours
The church office will be closed on November 26th and 27th in observance of Thanksgiving.
The following meetings will resume the week of November 30th:
Talk About the Sermon Wednesdays
Thursday Lunch with Roger
Congregational Meeting November 29th
Session scheduled November 29th for a congregational meeting that will take place immediately following our 11am worship, using the same Zoom meeting. The Nominating Committee has prepared nominees for new Ruling Elders and Deacons. We will vote on new officers, and pending Session’s discussion regarding the pastor’s terms of call, we will also vote on the pastor’s terms of call.
New Staff Announcement!
We are happy to announce that Session approved minister member Deborah Fortel to take on the unpaid role of Associate for Pastoral Care. This formalizes the ongoing work that Deborah, with Roger’s supervision, has been doing to help cover the pastoral care needs of our congregation. Deborah’s ongoing work with the congregation includes, among other things, the leadership she has provided to coordinate Companion Groups through the summer and early fall. The Personnel Committee reviewed the proposed position description and sent their recommendation to Session for consideration at the November 15th meeting. In this role, Deborah will also provide staff support for the Deacons. She begins as a member of staff this week and will be an important part of our staff going forward. On November 29th, the first Sunday of Advent, we will include a commissioning service to mark the beginning of this new season for our church and for Deborah.
Advent Ideas from Worship Council
Advent is coming! The first Sunday of Advent is November 29th, just 2 weeks away! The Worship Council has come up with several ways to celebrate Advent when we are unable to gather in person.
We encourage you to create a worship space for Advent in your home with an Advent wreath, or just a simple candle you can light, maybe a purple cloth or another way to create a sacred space.
We will be offering Christmas greetings each Sunday in Advent after the benediction, (Call Debbie 396-6803, or email to sign up or join Rebecca Mattern during her office hours).
If you or your family have a crèche, we invite you to take a picture when you have it set up and send the photo in an email to office@crescenthill.church. Be sure to take the picture in a landscape or sideways format.

What Can We Do?
Very often during times of crisis we wonder what, if anything, we can do. The Dean of Louisville Seminary, Debra J.
