Matthew 25—We’ve Only Just Begun!
There are only two weeks left in the Matthew 25 Bible study, on Zoom during the adult Sunday school hour (9:45–10:45). Don’t miss the last two sessions: Oct. 4 and 11. Veteran Bible study leaders Mark and Barbara Barnes have raised fascinating questions about Matthew’s Gospel and sparked lively small-group discussions. Please plan to participate Oct. 4 and 11 even if you missed the first three Sundays of the Bible study.
Here’s how you can be involved:
On Oct. 4 Mark and Barbara will help us dig into Matthew 25 and continue to explore the surprising relevance of Jesus’ words to events going on around us.On

Oct. 11, we will wrap up the study and look ahead to WHAT’S NEXT?

In November, Roger will be preaching on Matthew 25 at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship. We are exploring the possibility of some small groups to coincide with that..

Our Session voted for CHPC to become a Matthew 25 congregation, and we need every member to help flesh out what that means—for our church family and for each of us as disciples of Jesus Christ in the wider community. Help us discern together how we can answer God’s call to practice love, mercy, and justice in a world scarred by poverty and systemic racism. Stay tuned—this is an ongoing process!

For You, Parents of Young Children!
If that’s who you are, you already know that parenting is never easy and it has become much more difficult in this time of social distancing, mask wearing, virtual education, and working from home.

Crescent Hill can’t make it easy, but we can be part of helping you connect with others facing the same challenges of parenting during the Pandemic. WE ARE NOT ASKING YOU TO DO ANYTHING EXCEPT BE PART OF AN OCCASIONAL ZOOM GROUP MEETING. It will be a time to connect to other CHPC-ers who have kids and to be part of supporting each other and being supported.A facilitator will contact you to be part of an exploratory meeting to think together about the possibility of convening a small group or two by Zoom, and what such a group could offer to you so that you can be supportive to each other.

Meetings will be scheduled by mutual agreement to be as convenient as possible for as many people as possible. The first meeting will be in early to mid-October.

Interested? Let Faith Grady in the church office know by October 15. You can email her at office@crescenthill.church
Congregational Connections
In last month’s Westminster Ways, Nurture Council introduced possible ideas for helping CHPC individuals and families support each other during the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to those of you who contacted us with ideas for being involved. We are compiling those responses and talking with folks about how to begin addressing them in October. If you missed the original newsletter article but may still be interested, please call or text Soni Castleberry at 502-417-6481 or email her at soni.castleberry@gmail.com to share your needs for managing life better during this difficult time for all of us.
Give to the Peace & Global Witness Offering
This fall we are challenged to cast off anxiety and fear, discord and division, and embrace God’s mission of reconciliation! By giving to the Peace & Global Witness Offering, you help promote the peace of Christ by addressing systems of conflict and injustice across the world. The Peace & Global Witness Offering, one of four special offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), supports our global partners and empowers individuals and congregations to become peacemakers. It funds ministries that fight hunger and poverty and work for racial justice through education, empowerment of women, prison ministries and other efforts. Participating congregations designate 25 percent of the offering to support ministries of their choosing. Session voted to assign our 25 percent to “Feed the West“. The offering is collected on or before World Communion Sunday, October 4. You may give online or mail a check to the church. Please give generously!

What Can We Do?
Very often during times of crisis we wonder what, if anything, we can do. The Dean of Louisville Seminary, Debra J. Mumford has started a Padlet (electronic bulletin board with active links) that showcases actions we are each able to take to help realize social justice in the worldhttps://padlet.com/dmumford2/6mlyz480kr9e1wrk.
