Sunday School Kick-Off Breakfast: September 9
A new year of classes and activities to nurture, educate, and inspire all ages at CHPC will get underway on Sunday, September 9, with the annual Sunday School Kick-Off Breakfast. Children, teens, adults are invited to gather at 9:45 AM in Henry Young Hall. Sunday school teachers will introduce plans for classes and activities for every group from young children through adults. Come hear what’s in store for you and your family, and enjoy a full breakfast before worship.

Beginning Sunday, September 16:

Children’s Choir Time: Children (ages 3-5th grade) will start the day in the Choir Room (front building, Room 202) with Debbie Dierks at 9:45 AM for Children’s Choir time, then go to their Sunday school classes. They’ll be preparing songs to sing in worship regularly this year.

Young Children (ages 3 – 1st grade) meet in the front building, main floor, Room 201 (old church office next to the Choir Room). Teachers: Jessica Banks, Elaine Trautwein, and Jerry Van Marter. Substitutes: Erin Veliquette

Older Elementary (grades 2-5) meet in the front building, downstairs, Room 004 (at the end of the hall). Teachers: Kate Husk and Eva Stimson

Youth (middle and high school) meet in the Youth Room, front building, downstairs, Room 003. Teachers: Paul Kepler with rotating topics and leaders each month.

9:45 AM Adult Class: Topics and leaders change every month or two so pay attention to announcements that will describe new offerings. The Adult Class is located in the Gathering Room, back building, Room 118 (at end of the hall).

Adult Sunday School Classes:

New Sunday School Class: Come learn about William Barber II, whom many consider to be today’s Martin Luther King! The adult Sunday School class, led by Amy Pauw, will be looking at Barber’s Moral Mondays movement, and his strategy for overcoming the politics of division and fear in the United States. The class meets September 9, 16, 23, and 30 at 9:45 a.m. in the Gathering Room. All are welcome. If you want to get a head start, start reading Barber’s book, The Third Reconstruction (Beacon Press, 2016).

Coming in October and November: Intergenerational Sunday School Class
All are invited to meet with us during the month of October for an intergenerational Sunday School class as we discuss in depth the tragic issue of gun violence in America. We will hear from students and teachers as they relate to us their feelings as they return to school this fall. This issue affects all of us because these students and teachers, our treasures, are affected by this issue in such a frightening way.

We will hear from those who are daily reminded of others who have been brutally murdered in our schools. We remember those people and those who have been killed on American streets. Our goal is to develop a plan of action and to offer support to our students and teachers. Please invite your friends to join us.

During Advent, we will be having a variety of special Sunday School classes for all ages.

December 2: Jennifer Thalman Kepler will conduct an Intergenerational Advent Workshop

December 9 & 16: Roger Veliquette will lead an issues class on Christians and Christmas shopping

Adult Sunday School meets in the Gathering Room of the Back Building, at 9:45 AM.

There will be no Sunday School on December 23.
